Why our film trailer would be a mid-budget film? by Saqib Younis

The reason which why our film would be a mid-budget film is the fact that similar coming to age movies and that have similar stories and effect such as I am number four which was a film about a number one selling novel the production budget was around $60 million according to box office mojo. The other film which has a similar story to our trailer however did not possess many special affect unlike I am number four which had supernatural characters, is called Abduction which was maybe a mid to low budget film which cost around $35 million.

Grace Character Profile by Abigail Ford

Character Profile Name of character: Grace
Age: 17
Upbringing: Perfect family home. Gets everything she wants but isn’t spoilt as we want to like the character. Single child. Father's a business man, mother is a house wife. Fairly large 4 bedroom family home, obviously have money. Was sent to after school clubs such as swimming. We later find that she is adopted and was brought up to work for the government. Never knew what her dad did, just thought he was high up, find out later he is an agent for the government and her mum’s an ex spy.
Personality: Friendly and polite to people. Isn’t shy but doesn’t particularly talk much. Best friends with Zara, can tell that this is because Zara draws attention to herself and therefore away from Grace, which Grace likes. Moderately intelligent, predicted B’s. On the outside it doesn’t appear that she has a complex interesting life. Has history with Charlie, broken up, feelings are still obviously there though. Appearance: Blonde wavy hair, pretty face but doesn’t do much with it, wouldn’t look twice. Wears floral headbands which connote innocence, however does flicks with her eyeliner suggesting a slightly darker punky side, probably influenced by Zara. Simple ear-piercing and rest of makeup is natural.
Dress Codes
Grace is our eponymous hero, which contradicts most films as usually the hero is male, breaking gender stereotypes. We wanted her to be unlike most female heroes, who usually go for a fem-me fettle, promiscuous look, as seen in Lara Croft and Kill Bill. Instead, we wanted to show that she is quite feminine, the stereotypical teenage girl. As such, we decided that she should dress in light pale clothes and iconically wear flowers in her hair, to connote innocence and naivety. However, once she has been kidnapped and is having to fight from danger, we wanted her pretty clothes to be covered in mud and blood, and to be slightly ripped. Firstly, this is continuity; she wouldn’t look perfect after been held captive for days and after running away. This also connotes that her original innocence and naivety has gone, as she is now far more aware of her powers and the dangers these can bring. It also shows that her character is stronger, as she has become a fighter after struggling for her life. An example of this is Rose Tyler from Doctor Who. Rose, a girl from East-end London, typically wore pink t-shirts and feminine makeup, however, the more she travels with the Doctor, introduces new aspects to her wardrobe such as a leather jacket, to show character change with the more she learns about the world, however, an aspect of girlishness was still apparent. Another example is Cady from Mean Girls. While she was not always feminine, Cady did show character development through wardrobe change. At first, she was an awkward teenage girl who didn’t know the do’s and don’ts of fashion. However, the more popular she becomes and aware of “girl world” we see that her clothes become more fashionable and match those of her friends. She also introduces more feminine colours to her wardrobe such as red and pink.

My role as Arts director by Saqib Younis

Art Director
Art Directors act as project managers for the biggest department on any film – the Art Department. They facilitate the Production Designer's creative vision for all the locations and sets that eventually give the film its unique visual identity. Art Directors are responsible for the Art Department budget and schedule of work, and help the Production Designer to maximize the money allocated to the department. Art Directors are usually requested by the Production Designer, and are responsible for the Assistant Art Director, the Draughtsman* (as many as 20 Draughtsmen may be employed on big budget films), the Art Department Assistant(s) and all Construction personnel. As Art Directors must find practical solutions to creative problems while simultaneously monitoring the budget, this is highly skilled work. Many Art Directors work on television drama and commercials, as well as on films. The hours are long and the job can involve long periods working away from home. Art Directors work on a freelance basis. However as this is only a A2 sixth form coursework project so some of the above do not apply to me for example the control of the budget as there is not really a budget. Also I won’t have to work away for long periods; however I will be overlooking the construction on the trailer and the shots which have been taken. Also on how the scene looks and if I think it fits the film. The key factor involved in this role is that
•a good eye for decoration and detail;
•ability to conceptualize ideas;
•ability to think visually;
•methodical approach to work;
•ability to lead a team;
•ability to see the broader picture and to co-ordinate effectively;
•diplomacy and sensitivity when working with artists and crew;
•knowledge of the requirements of the relevant Health and Safety legislation and procedures

Mr Eastwood Character profile by Saqib Younis

Name of the character-Mr Eastwood
Age-late 20s
Upbringing-He is university educated back story is that his dad was a former government agent in which he taught his son a numerous amount of valuable skills which gives him a unique and dangerous skill set. His father was killed by the agency after he was caught selling weapons to a terrorist group. He had wanted revenge ever since.
Costume-A white shirt and casual trousers i.e. beige pants or even jeans. Polished suit shoes and any tie. Props- Briefcase and fountain pen in his shirt pocket Traits-as a teacher he in the normal teacher has a bit of a joke but is serious in lesson when he has to be, however as a person outside of school he is obsessed with revenge and plots to get his own back on the government agency.
I believe if this movie was actually being made a good actor for the teacher would be Chris Coy. He played an unusual role in the hostel 3 as he was not expected to be so villainess as he looks like a normal adult in his mid to late 20s. The movie would be a mid budget film more towards the mid budget around £50million.

John Fiske by Saqib Younis

John Fiske (born 1939) is a media scholar who has taught around the world, most notably as Professor of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His areas of interest include popular culture, mass culture, and television studies. He is the author of eight books, including Power Plays, Power Works (1993), Understanding Popular Culture (1989), Reading the Popular (1989), and the influential Television Culture (1987).
Fiske also acts as a media critic, examining how cultural meaning is created in American society, and how debates over issues such as race are handled in different media. In May 2008, Fiske received an Honorary Degree from the University of Antwerp. Most texts contain ‘preferred’ meaning - as intended by producer- but also offer possibilities for consumers to create own alternative or resistant reading. Media is ‘enabler’ of ideas and meanings, promoting diversity and difference equals may lead to social change. For example does Madonna exploit the music business or does the business exploit

Tzvetan Todorov and Claude Levi Strauss by Saqib Younis

Tzvetan Todorov
Tzvetan Todorov is a Franco-Bulgarian philosopher. He has lived in France since 1963 and now lives there with his wife Nancy Huston and their two children, writing books and essays about literary theory, thought history and culture theory.  Todorov Theory is a very simple one it suggests that a story starts with an equilibrium where everything is balanced and normal as the narrative goes on there is distruption then in the final theres an resolution and normality is restored.

Dark Knight Rises Batman Vs Bane

Claude Lévi-Strauss born 28 November 1908 – 30 October 2009 was a French anthropologist and ethnologist, and has been called, along with James George Frazer and Franz Boas, the "father of modern anthropology". The work of Lévi-Strauss was also key in the development of the theory of structuralism and structural anthropology. He was honoured by universities throughout the world and held the chair of Social Anthropology at the College de France (1959–1982), and was elected a member of the Académie française in 1973.
Claude Levi Strauss
Binary Opposition is Claude Levi Strauss theory in which he believes in a narrative there are many different oppositions: Good vs. Evil, this is particularly shown in genres such as action and thrillers. Dark vs. Light, this is again shown in action/thriller/horror films. Protagonist vs. Antagonist, this too can be shown in action/thriller Past vs. Future, this can be shown in action and history  Feminine vs. Masculine this is particularly seen in horror/ thriller films as females are generally seen as being victims and males are seen to be killers.

Thor The God  Of Thunder Loki Vs Thor

Vladimir Propp by Saqib Younis

Vladimir Propp is one of many media theorist. He was born on April 17th 1895 in ST. Petersburg. His Morphology of the Folktale was published in Russian in 1928. Although it represented a breakthrough in both folkloristic and morphology and influenced Claude Lévi-Strauss and Roland Barthes, it was generally unnoticed in the West until it was translated in 1958. His character types are used in media education and can be applied to almost any story be it in literature, theatre, film, television series, games, etc. He also concluded that all the characters could be resolved into 7 broad character functions in the 100 tales he analysed. The Villain is one which he realised would always struggle against the hero.

Star Wars Revenge Of The Sith

Another character type is the dispatcher who is someone who sends the hero on his journey. The helper is another character that Propp analysed; the helper has a role in which he aids the hero on his quest or journey. It basically does what he or she is named after.  The princess or prize and her father the hero deserves her throughout the story but is unable to marry her because of an unfair evil, usually because of the villain. The hero's journey is often ended when he marries the princess, thereby beating the villain. Like in Man of steel in which Clarke Kent aka Superman has to save Earth in which the love of his life louis lane in living on and as he saves Earth he saves her.

Man Of Steel

The donor prepares the hero or gives the hero some magical object. For example in Harry Potter Hagrid is the one who provide Harry with the news that he is a wizard and this begins his journey to Hogwarts. The most obvious character type is the Hero who ends up saving the day and typically marrying the princess. The last of the seven charters types is the false hero who is a character who takes the glory of the hero and tries to marry the princess but tends to be defeated for example I Shrek 2 when prince charming tries to marry Princess Fiona claiming he is Shrek.
